Special Notice-Buoys

SWOA has just been notified that Transport Canada will be on the lake next week (June 20) tagging “non compliant” buoys.  SWOA has heard that TC will be checking at least from Cottonwoods to Magna Bay.

Tagging gives the owner time to become compliant before removal so SWOA suggests you watch for a notice attached to your buoy.

For more information on Transport Canada buoy regulations, there is a guide for owners.

The CSRD has additional information for waterfront property owners regarding docks and buoys. For more, see the CSRD's website under Dock & Buoy Regulations.

When will this happen in Fraser Bay. I have been waiting for this to happen now for 10+ years in my area of Fraser Bay??

What is taking so long. Last time I checked Fraser Bay was suppose to be next for buoys tags in the summer of 2020, but we all know what happened that year.
Why are they tagging in magna bay area where there no problems with Bouys?

Fraser Bay has been a problem for over 20+ years now. There are over 50+ bouys and over 12+ docks that do not belong to waterfront owners.

I can keep going on about this issue. My neighbors and I have contacted everyone in government that’s is responsible for our area and nothing ever happens. I will invite anyone that what’s to come and see for themselves on what is happening in Fraser Bay. I’ll even supply some happy hour drinks on my dock. Lol

Mike – Thanks for the comment. We can understand your frustration but for their own reasons, Transport Canada decided to only complete an inspection this year from Lee Creek to Magna Bay. We have also heard similar comments from other waterfront owners in Blind Bay and the SWOA Board has decided to write to TC, on behalf of its members, asking Transport Canada to include both Fraser and Blind Bays in their next round of inspections.

Clyde – I live on Fraser Bay. Did you get a response from TC about more inspections?
I’ll send you an email at info@swoa.ca with a few more questions.
Dennis

Yes Dennis we have written to Transport Canada but to date have not received a response. We’ll let you know if/when we hear from TC in the New Year.
