Kicking Horse TCH Closures

October 2022

BC Transportation Investment Corporation (TIC) is currently reporting that the TransCanada Highway (TCH) will be totally closed through the Kicking Horse Canyon until December 1st, 2022. This means that traffic will have to use the TCH detour via highways 93 and 95. This detour takes traffic from the Castle Mountain Junction on the TCH westward to Radium via Highway 93, and then northwards to Golden via Highway 95. Neither of these highways are well equipped for the volume of truck traffic that they are experiencing during the diversion. Caution is advised during winter driving conditions.

Starting December 1st, 2022,  the current schedule is saying Expect 30-minute daytime and evening stoppages, with overnight closures – details to be arranged .  It is also stated that the TCH should be “ open most or all of Christmas week”. It is very encouraging to see that the TCH will be running fairly normally throughout December and the Christmas season. At this time it is expected that the TCH will go back to extended closures in the spring.
