Information from the BC Wildfire Dashboard
A province wide state of Emergency is now in effect across all of British Columbia. Over the last 24 hours, extreme fire behavior has been seen in the Southern region due to continuous hot and dry conditions. Thunderstorms forecasts for parts of the interior could also bring dry lightning. While crews continue responding to new wildfire starts and maintaining sustained action on existing incidents, everyone in BC has a role to play in preparedness. Take time to register for emergency notifications from local authorities; stay informed through the CSRD Shuswap Emergency Management Program Website (Click here) and consult with Drive BC (Click here) to assist with travel planning and possible road closures.
The primary source for wildfire related updates is the BC Wildfire Service Dashboard. (Click here). As of August 8, 2026, there have been 896 wildfires this year; 102 remain active. 48% of the active fires are Out of Control, 21% being held and 31% Under Control. 51% of these wildfires were caused by lightning, 46% were a result of human activity and 3% undetermined.
Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order... What's the difference?
Evacuation Order
Leave the area immediately. Follow the directions of local emergency officials and evacuate using the routes they’ve identified. Do not return home until you’ve been advised that the Evacuation Order has been rescinded.

This is the time to get prepared to leave your home on short notice. Get your grab-and-go bags ready (which should include several days of clothing, toiletries and medications), your emergency plan, copies of important documents and important mementos.
